NORWAY – Alden Wilson, the executive director of the Maine Arts Commission, spoke Thursday at a downtown revitalization meeting.

In his brief talk on how Maine towns are using the arts to revitalize the downtown area, he cited L/A Arts as the heart of a cultural revitalization in Lewiston and Auburn.

Wilson then fielded questions concerning the Norway downtown area.

Residents told him downtown Norway is working to become a place for the arts. They gave the upcoming Summer Festival, Debbie Irons Dance Studio and the Ellen Rawding Studio as examples. Local artist Pat Chandler said there was interest in starting an art center.

Prior to the talk, Wilson toured the cultural areas of downtown Norway, ending at the library.
