RUMFORD – Selectmen are expected to act on a request for installation of a temporary building for housing a firetruck when they meet Thursday. They are also expected to act on the union contract for firefighters.

The regular twice-monthly meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Building.

The Rumford Fire Department wants to install a temporary building at the rear of the fire station in the municipal lot. The building, estimated to cost about $40,000, would house a soon-to-be-delivered ladder truck. The fire station is not large enough to house the new truck.

Town Manager Robert Welch said the firefighters union has signed a new, three-year contract. Selectmen will discuss, and possibly ratify, the agreement.

In other labor matters, the board is expected to enter into a closed session with the town’s lawyer and highway department superintendent to discuss ongoing negotiations with the highway union. That three-year contract expired on June 30.

The board will also hear about plans by Eugene Davis, owner of Western Maine Insurance, to increase the size of his business. His office is located on lower Congress Street.

A variety of board and committee appointments will be made. Selectmen will also act on a hawker’s and peddler’s license for Dan Pelletier, who wants to operate a lunch wagon.
