POLAND – Tripp Lake Improvement Association announced this year’s essay winners for the third annual grade four essay contest at Poland Community School.

Principal Peter Campbell read the winning essays and presented certificates at a May assembly.

Association members voted to offer $300 scholarships to two fourth-graders who show interest in preserving the environment.

This year’s judges, Marion and Claire Chesley, chose Devin Goyette and Brandie Phillips to attend the Maine Conservation Camp at Bryant Pond for a week this summer.

Phillips’ group will adopt a part of the forest for recreation and discovery while Goyette will gain skills and knowledge to safely enjoy Maine’s woods and waters. Both will swim, kayak and canoe.
