NEW GLOUCESTER – Frederick Hunnewell Sr. passed away July 7, after a long illness.

He grew up and spent most of his life in New Gloucester. He worked for the Maine Turnpike Authority, Pineland Center, and then was self-employed as a excavator in his own business for the last 30 years.

He will be truly missed by his family, extended family, and friends. “Fred” was the happiest when he was with his family or in his loader, or other equipment. He said several days ago that if wealth was measured in family and friends, he was the richest man in the world.

Survivors include two sons, John N. Hunnewell of New Gloucester, Frederick Hunnewell Jr. of Gray; two daughters, Diane I. Langlois and Rhonda G. Perkins both of New Gloucester; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Rodney Hunnewell of New Gloucester; two sisters, Gwen Jordan of New Gloucester and Glenys Rosa of Merrimac, NH.

He was predeceased by his wife, Irene I. Ericksen; and a grandson, Nicholas Perkins. And now he has gone to be with his beloved wife Irene, the rest of the family that are there to greet him, and Herb Thompson to give him a dig. (As special note: Mr. Hunnewell appreciated his nursing care and thought of them like family.)
