LEWISTON – Doris Belanger of 1850 Pownal Road, Auburn, visited the new veterans honor stones dedicated at the Veterans Memorial Park on July 4.
Inscribed on the stones are the names of her four sons, Normand, William Jr., Roger and Michael. Also inscribed are her foster son, Arthur Kenney, and her brother, J. Peter O’Leary.
Mrs. Belanger, wife of the late William H. Belanger, has been waiting to see the stones carrying the names of her relatives.
She saw all of her sons serve in the military during the Vietnam War and three of her boys were in Vietnam during the same time rotation.
Normand and Michael served in the Army as infantry and Roger served on a carrier in the Gulf of Tonkin. William ended his 20 years of service with the Air Force and was stationed in Germany.
Arthur Kenney enlisted with William and was stationed in the Philippines. Mrs. Belanger’s prayers were answered when her last son returned home. All of her boys returned and live in the area except for Kenney, who died of cancer.
