TURNER – Corey Wing singled in a pair of runs in the first game for Locke Mills and Andy Valley took advantage of inconsistent pitching in the nightcap as the pair split an American Legion doubleheader here Sunday.
In the opener, Andy Valley held a 1-0 lead, but Locke Mills plated three runs in the fifth and posted a 4-1 victory.
After a pair of walks, Wing drove in what proved to be the game-winners. Wing had three hits in the game.
Wing also pitched a complete game for the win.
Josh Armandi had a pair of hits for Andy Valley.
In Game 2, the bats came alive as Andy Valley countered with an 11-5 win.
Locke Mills managed to tie the game at 4-4 in the top of the fourth, but Andy Valley countered with three runs in the bottom of the same frame. They took advantage of walks and passed balls to take the lead for good.
Andy Valley iced it later on with four runs in the sixth on five hits.
Brandon Smith had a pair of doubles for Andy Valley while Jordan Morrill, Ryan Deschesne, and Ryan Ouellette each had a pair of hits.
Smith also had success on the hill, relieving Josh Armandi in the third and picking up the win.
