BETHEL – Two Planning Board public hearings at the town office Wednesday night were neatly wrapped up in 10 quick minutes, despite a good showing from abutters.

Scott Lane, standing in for his father, David Lane, briefed the 10 people present and five planners on the family’s need for a site plan amendment for their Chosun Restaurant project.

The younger Lane deftly explained that his father wanted to add a deck to the Main Street restaurant to provide alternative seating for the Korean and Japanese eatery’s customers rather than additional seating.

According to state licensing restrictions, they are limited to providing 36 seats. Scott Lane said that the deck would enable them to offer their patrons inside or outside seating.

Lane also said those wishing to dine outside on the deck would not be out there longer than 10 p.m. because the restaurant would stop serving by 9 p.m. No additional lighting is planned.

Neither those present nor planners had any comments about the amendment.

In the second hearing, former Bethel Code Enforcement Officer Don Murphy, who now works for Main-Land Development of Livermore Falls, represented Scott Stone. Stone had applied for a subdivision/site plan application for his residential tri-plex project, 45 Mill Hill Condominiums.

Murphy explained the project’s concerns, noting that the site’s final grade will not be brought above the road apron into its curb cut to better channel runoff water toward natural drainage areas behind the complex.

Lighting will be kept to a minimum and minimal fill of 2,000 square feet will be added to the site to square it up with an embankment.

Again, no one had any comments or questions about the project.
