AUBURN – Timothy Millet, 11, son of a Martindale club member, registered an eagle on the first hole, a par 4. He hit a 5-iron on his second shot, 136-yards, into the cup.

Amateur qualifier

FALMOUTH – Joe Alvarez of Penobscot Valley CC combined a morning score of 73 with an afternoon round of 70 for a 143 to advance to a forced playoff for the second available spot in the US Amateur Qualifier at Falmouth Monday. Alvarez then used his momentum from the afternoon round to birdie the first playoff hole and earn his trip to Oakmont, Pa., in August.

Alvarez will join New Brunswick’s Ron Harvey, Jr., who topped the field of 50 for the day by shooting 72-70-142. Tying for second were Alvarez, Ricky Jones of Thomaston, and Josh Allard, of Portsmouth, N.H.
