1935 – 2003

Rumford Joan M. LaMontagne, 68, a resident of Carthage and formerly of Livermore Falls, died Saturday evening at Rumford Community Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born in Old Town on March 15, 1935, the daughter of Albert and Ella Marie Dumond Seymour. She received her education in schools of Old Town and Auburn.

On December 11, 1956, she married Arthur J. LaMontagne in Lewiston. They were married 48 years.

She worked at various shoe factories including Livermore Falls Shoe Company, until she received her CRMA certification and worked as a medical assistant at Victorian Villa Nursing Home in Canton. She worked helping others until she retired.

She enjoyed her hobbies of gardening, lawn sales, spending time with her grandchildren, and long afternoons fishng with her husband.

She is survived by her husband of Carthage; one daughter, Tina and her husband Joseph Curtis of Dixfield; three sons and their wives, Roland and Louise Fortin of Greene, Arthur and Debbie LaMontagne of Otisfield, and Dennis and Cindy LaMontagne of Livermore; one sister and her husband, Alice and Jim Keene of Leeds; two brothers, Francis Simon of Sabattus and Frank Simon of Lewiston; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren with three more expected soon.

She was pre-deceaced by one brother, Albert Simon Jr.
