LIVERMORE FALLS – One of the infamous stop signs on Moose Hill Road is gone.

It wasn’t stolen this time, or knocked over, just taken out by the highway crew on orders of the selectmen.

Monday night the board decided to remove one of the two signs put up last November at the request of Selectman Bernal Lake.

At that time Lake said several accidents had taken place on that corner near his home where Record Road enters Moose Hill Road.

Monday night Lake admitted the signs didn’t work. “Probably 80 percent of the drivers don’t stop,” he said.

Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. persuaded the board to keep a sign on Record Road, as it had always had a stop sign. Lake agreed to a yield sign.

In other road business, the board tabled action on the 1980 parking ordinance, noting that it needed updating. Steward commented that it hadn’t been enforced in the 15 years he’s been on the force.

The board denied a request for a 15-minute parking space for the Main Street hot dog stand, preferring to leave it as business as usual. Drivers parking in the area several hours at a time will be asked to leave their vehicles in other nearby parking lots, in fairness to all businesses.

Named to a Dispatch Study Committee were Maxine Bailey, Tom DuBois, Palmer Hebert and Kevin Morrissey, four of the 13 citizens who had indicated interest. They will serve with the police and fire chiefs, an ambulance representative and the road foreman.

Named to a Community Development Advisory Board were Bruce Adams, Kathy Brown, Jodi Cornelio, Bernard Deshaies, Paula Isgroe, Ken Jacques, Guy Palmieri and Elaine Smith.

A proposal for Job Club work experience at the library was tabled as was discussion on the rules for use of the library auditorium. Job Club is a program at Livermore Falls High School.
