1942 – 2003
GRAY – Harry Clayton Lawler, 60, of Leavitt Ave, died suddenly on Monday, Aug. 4, at his home.
The son of Beatrice Mary Bruns, he was born Sept. 7, 1942, in Portland, and lived in Gray with his brother, Charles Lawler Bruns and his family.
He graduated from Pennell Institute in 1961 where he participated in various sports and was a key member of the basketball team which won the 1961 Class M State Championship.
He joined the U.S. Air Force using the buddy system with Norm Wilson, and served from 1962 to 1968 with a tour of duty in Thailand.
He retired from the MDOT after 25 years of service and subsequently worked in construction. Dayton Sand and Gravel currently employed him.
He was active in a variety of sports throughout his lifetime both as a participant and as a fan. He was an avid golfer and belonged to Poland Spring Golf Club. He participated in the weekly MSGA Golf Tournaments.
He was an active member of Saint Gregory’s Parish where he was a Eucharistic Minister. He also was active in the American Legion Post 86 in Gray and the Eagles Club in New Gloucester.
He was recently very active in supporting and assisting in the fund raising events for Danielle Hall (a young woman waiting for a heart transplant at Boston Children’s Hospital).
He is survived by his son, Shawn Lawler and his ex-wife Gerry both currently living in Texas; in-laws, Buck and Louise Hastings, and nephew, Brian Hill of Florida; his brother, Charles Lawler Bruns of Gray; and a large extended family.
