Crews will begin tearing up Main Street in Lewiston Monday, part of a street reclamation project.

Work is scheduled to begin on Main Street between Montello Street and Stetson Road, with crews closing one lane in each direction, according to Public Works Director Dave Jones.

“We should be able to keep it open to two lanes throughout,” Jones said. “We may have to shut it down to one lane at times, but we will do our best to keep traffic moving.”

Crews will begin milling and grinding the road first, then resetting curbs along the way. Plans call for milling, grinding and repaving the entire stretch from Montello Street to the Greene town line this year.

“We have better than two miles to go before the snow flies,” Jones said. “So they’re going to be really kicking.”

Crews will also be paving seven area roads this week. They are: Webster Street between Maplewood Road and Plourde Parkway; College and Lafayette streets from Campus Avenue to Russell Street; Harold Street from Farwell Street to Bushey Circle; Montello Street from East Avenue to Stanley Street; Walnut Street from Webster to Jefferson streets; and 100 feet of Lisbon Street downtown, in front of Drapeau’s Costume Rentals.

“We’ve had problems with sewer and waterlines there, so we want to go in and grind it down so we can repave it,” he said of the Lisbon Street portion.

Crews are scheduled to do preparations on those roads beginning Monday and pave them on Thursday and Friday.

Jones said crews are doing paving preparations for several streets. They are: Hogan Road between Ernest and Montello streets; Fair Street between College Street and Central Avenue; Bossie Street from Stevens to Pineland streets; Irwin Street between Cassell to Avalon streets; outer College Street around Lemieux Street; and Montello Street from College to Fair streets.

Court Street continues

Auburn crews will be working to wrap up Court Street road work again this week. City Engineer Steve Ranney said crews took longer to finish work on some trenches than they first thought.

“So, we expect them to finish up paving this week,” he said. “That’ll leave some sidewalk work.”

Pavement Technician Paul Niehoff said crews are also scheduled to begin paving work on Granite Street this week and digging a new culvert along Moosebrook Road.

“That will close that road for two days,” he said. “We’ll be detouring traffic around.”

In Minot, crews will continue paving operations on Minot Avenue between Hackett Mills Road and Lower Road in Minot this week. Tree clearing crews will continue working along the road near Auburn.
