RANGELEY – The third annual Summer Celebration will be held Sunday, Aug. 17, “to celebrate the many aspects of recreation in Rangeley,” according to Judy Morton, chairman of the event.
The day begins at 6 a.m. with a sunrise ecumenical service at the ninth hole of the Mingo Springs Golf Course. The Rangeley Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team will host at 3.5 mile Road Race and a 1-mile fun run starting at 8 a.m. The race will begin at Lakeside Park.
Golfers can take part in a tournament, held at the Evergreen Golf Club on Dallas Hill Road between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Rangeley Lake tours with Tim and Pauline Lyons will be held throughout the day starting at 10 a.m. Pre-registration at the Chamber of Commerce is required for the Rangeley Lake tours that leave from the Rangeley town dock. Kayak demonstrations, compliments of Ecopelagicon Nature Store will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in town cove.
Town Cove will be the site of the Boat Parade starting at 11:30. Participants are encouraged to decorate their boats for this year’s parade. At 12:30, antique autos owned by Rangeley residents will gather at the Rangeley Inn green for a parade down Main Street and will be on display following the conclusion of the parade.
At the Rangeley Town Park – Rangeley-area organizations will have information booths and refreshments and Rangeley’s emergency vehicles will be on display throughout the day. Between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., there will be the Artisans on the Lake, near the town dock.
At 1 p.m., the TIATIAGNMRS (the-informal-around-the-island-anything-goes-no-motors-race-series) will be held.
The Rangeley Lakes Regional Trust will provide a Milfoil/Invasive Plant presentation to be held lakeside at 2 p.m. The presentation will include a report on Shoreline Survey and inspection results for Rangeley Lake.
At 2:30 p.m., the Future Problem Solvers will have a pie-eating contest. Pies have been donated by Rangeley Auto Supply and the IGA. The day will conclude with the bombing of the Bismarck sponsored by the Friends of Mountain Aviation.
“It is like throwing a party for the town which showcases Rangeley. That is what is so wonderful about this, people do whatever it takes to make it a great celebration.” said Morton.
