Dozens of displays are anticipated at the event on Sept. 26 and 27.

RUMFORD – Nearly 110 businesses, municipalities, nonprofits and other organizations have signed up so far for the River Valley Expo on Sept. 26 and 27.

Some of these participants took part in a special session last week by the River Valley Chamber of Commerce and the River Valley Growth Council to learn how to get the best use of the two-day affair.

Yvonne Allen, co-chairwoman of the River Valley Expo Committee, said expectations have already been exceeded for the event, which is to showcase the services, goods and organizations available in the area.

A few inside booths are still available at Mountain Valley High School as well as a few more on the high school grounds.

On the Saturday of the event, virtually all of the high school will be filled with booths – the library, auditorium, gymnasium, cafeteria, several classrooms and the hallways.

“Anyone who has lived here for years or anyone who is new will learn who, what and where we are,” Allen said.

Historical societies are expected to display photos and histories, businesses will exhibit their products or services, nonprofits will describe their services and towns are expected to tell a little about themselves. The local Healthy Communities Coalition will be there, as will the chamber, Growth Council and a variety of these organizations’ offshoots. Artists are expected to display some of their works.

The Expo is meant to show virtually everything the River Valley has to offer.

Allen, along with co-chairwomen Brenda Flagg and Rosie Bradley, has been organizing what is hoped will be an annual event. The River Valley Chamber and the Growth Council are sponsoring the Expo.

Allen said that 500 posters, and the radio, television and newspaper coverage is targeting more than 100,000 people in Maine and New Hampshire as possible attendees. A local radio station will broadcast live from the Saturday Expo.

On the Friday night before the public session, businesses will have a chance to get to know each other through a three-hour networking session.

Registrations are still being taken at the chamber at 364-3241 or through the Growth Council by phoning 369-0396.
