1916-2003

Lewiston – Nellie C. Karpowich, 87, of 357 Maine St., Poland Spring, died Thursday, Aug. 21, at Central Maine Medical Center.

Born in Malden, Mass. Feb. 19, 1916, she was the daughter of Ausborne and Evelyn Libby Chisholm. She worked most of her life in the food industry and owned Nell’s Restaurant.

She enjoyed gardening, researching family history, playing bridge, knitting and reading.

Survivors include four sons, Stephen and his wife Judith of Manchester, Mass., Peter of Poland Spring and his wife Meredith of Half Moon Bay, Calif., Timothy of Greely, Colo., and David and his wife Linda of Medford, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one sister, Chrystel Buck of Poland; and one brother, Richard and his wife Josephine. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred, who died in 1970; and one sister, Barbara Carl.
