It wasn’t a surprise last year to see St. Dom’s dominate the WMC and win its second straight league title. The Saints put things together early, and the momentum was evident in their play.

The dream ended prematurely when St. Dom’s lost to Hall-Dale in the Western final last season. A quick lead by Hall Dale stunned the Saints and took away their style of play. It was a lesson they hope won’t be repeated again.

The Saints scored a Class C state record 89 goals, including 27 by all-star Erica Dorso. The potent forward line also includes Elisha Dorso, Sarah Daigle and Michela Fyler.

The defense is solid with goalie Ilssa Vallee, fullback Julie Vandermeulen and sweeper Becky Lewis. Caitlin Rutt and Beth Schutt must control the ball in the midfield.

In Class B, Poland hopes to find a way to get back into the win column. The seniors are midfielder Linda Fecteau and goalie Rachel Sheloske. Front liners include Amanda Plummer and Chelsea Gerard.

Offense seemingly is in good shape at Fryeburg with Brooke Anderson, Ileana Katz, Bryane Henessey, Baily Nunan, Mallory McInnis and Anna Ballard in the mix.

The conference schedule has changed, but teams to watch include two-time regional champion Greely, Gorham and York.

Gray-New Gloucester has struggled in recent years against the power teams in the conference but has more experience this time around. Senior goalie Alyssa Clark will be strong along with sweeper Carla Dunn.

Inners Laurie Craft and Nicole Dufourhope to supply scoring punch.
