LIVERMORE FALLS -Livermore Falls High School football coach Brad Bishop didn’t need to make any adjustments during the season-opening Class C Campbell Conference football game Friday night. Practice seemed to cover everything the Andies encountered.

A hard-hitting defense, led by linebackers Matt Brochu and Garrett Young, set the tone by crashing the opposing line early and often. Brad Bryant supplied the offense, scoring three touchdowns and amassing over 200 all-purpose yards as the Andies cruised to a 37-0 win over Winthrop at Griffin Field.

Livermore Falls (1-0) limited the Ramblers to 70 total yards.

“These are hard-working kids who have a lot of heart,” Bishop said. “We have a stud in Brad Bryant in the backfield, and our quarterback (Dane Hanson) made some good decisions. These kids can hit andthey play hard.”

Livermore Falls got things going on its second offensive series as Bryant carried the bulk of the nine-play, 65-yaed drive. It concluded with Bryant going off right tackle, sidestepping a Ramblers defender and scoring a 16-yard TD. Chuck Drake kicked his first of three extra points.

Winthrop (0-1) was unable to neturalize the Andies’ waggle and counter treys plays. The lopsided setback spoiled the first game in head coach Chris Kempton’s second tenure with the program.

“Our offensive execution worked really well,” Bryant said. “Winthrop did try some stunts on us early, but then the linemen got downfield to get the blocks and I was able to run behind them.”

Livermore Falls scored two TDs in the second quarter as Bryant (153 yards on 25 carries) rolled in from four and 20 yards.

Winthrop QB Tavis Hasenfus was bottled up through out the game, and running back Derek Gray was held to minus-1 yard on 14 carries. Gray sat out the second half with an ankle injury, and the Ramblers made one of 10 conversions on third down.

“I’ve used a 52 defense for ever since I’ve been coaching,” Bishop said. “We’ve switched to a 4-4 ,and it is working.”

Hanson and Steve Gibbons each scored a TD in the second half.
