On the morning after the U.S. Open, I was anxiously awaiting the Sun Journal to see front page recognition of Andy Roddick (Sept. 8).

Instead I saw: “Sports: Patriots start season on losing note.” At that point I said to myself, “Well, football is big in the area as well as the U.S.”

So I tried to ignore the oversight, and went straight to the Sports section in hopes of finding an impressive picture and story on Andy Roddick. To my dismay, he was in a tiny picture at the bottom left corner with a large picture of football players at the top of the page.

Football season has just begun, and the Patriots have plenty of time for glory; one of their glory moments was even granted after losing 31-0. Just as the Superbowl is football’s big day, the U.S. Open is tennis’ big day. It sure would have been nice to have seen the Sports headline read something like: “Young American, Andy Roddick wins the U.S. Open in New York.”
