LONDONDERRY, N.H. (AP) – A 3-year-old boy drowned in a pond behind his Londonderry home, police said.
Dylan Drinan was reported missing Tuesday around midday, prompting a search by dozens of neighbors and officials.
Three police officers who found him in a pond around 12:45 p.m. tried to revive him, but couldn’t.
Beyond the Drinans’ back yard is a pasture that sits less than a quarter-mile from the pond. Woods and heavy brush surround most of the pond, obscuring it from view. The pond is coated with a bright green layer of algae.
Dylan’s mother and grandmother were home when the boy was discovered missing, Londonderry Police Capt. Bill Hart said. Dylan had probably been missing for about 20 minutes when police were called at a few minutes before noon, Hart said.
He wouldn’t comment as to where Dylan was when he disappeared or what he was doing.
The search party of police and neighbors included from about 50 to 75 people, according to police.
“We are examining the whole lead-up to this,” Hart said. “I caution there is no suggestion of anything out of the ordinary. It appears at first blush to be an accidental tragedy.”
