DIXFIELD – Jesica Allen and Samm Johnson each scored goals in the first half as Mountain Valley remained unbeaten with a convincing 3-0 win against arch-rival Dirigo in MVC field hockey action Wednesday.

The Falcons (3-0) unleashed a dominating attack, which included 19 shots and 15 corners.

“It’s getting better,” Mountain Valley coach Melissa Forbes said, referring to the offensive flow. “I still think that we can get more out of the players. I really don’t want to say much else, except to say the team has been playing well.”

The Falcons scored the only goal they would need when Allen one-timed a low shot past Dirigo freshman goalie Danny Thompkins with 15:41 left in the first half. A Cougar defender had tried clearing the ball, but Allen moved in quickly to shoot the ball.

Six minutes later, Johnson drilled in a shot off a set play. Ashley Arsenault sent the ball in on a penalty corner and Nikki Demers tapped the ball over to Johnson.

Dirigo (0-3) was held without a shot on goal and hasn’t scored a goal this season.

“It’s frustrating,” Dirigo coach Gretchen Curtis said. “We’re just not aggressive enough and there’s a lot of standing around. Hopefully, it will come around in time.”

In the meantime, we don’t want the girls to become discouraged because they are trying.”

Kaly Bernard scored in the second off a Brianna Touchette assist.
