MEXICO – Excavation has begun and construction is scheduled to start on a new auto parts store in Mexico.
Superintendent for the project, Bill Keller, said Primax Construction of South Pines, N.C., is expected to begin work by the end of the month on a 6,800-square-foot Advance Auto Parts retail store.
The construction company is building the masonry structure for Biltmore Properties, also of South Pines, N.C., who will then lease it to Advance Auto Parts.
In the meantime, S.W. Young Construction of Rumford has been subcontracted to clear the lot and prepare the site next to Labonville along Route 2.
Keller said space for 28 vehicles will be built along the front and eastern portion of the lot.
The business, which is expected to employ eight to 12 people in two shifts, is due to open its doors for business by the end of the year.
Town Manager Joseph Derouche, who announced the plans by the auto parts retailer earlier in the year, said the total project cost is about $700,000.
Advance Auto Parts is a national chain with more than 2,400 stores scattered across the country.
With Mexico’s new store, five will be located in Maine, including those in Lewiston and Biddeford.
