1928 – 2003

BRUNSWICK – Marilyn Mae Houston, 75, a longtime resident of Pejepscot, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10, at the Parkview Hospital after a long illness.

She was born in Pejepscot, Jan. 22, 1928, the daughter of Walter and Mary (Guenther) Hinds. She attended local schools and graduated from Brunswick High School in 1945.

Mrs. Houston was employed by Maine National Bank-Fleet Bank for over 46 years as a Bank Teller retiring in 1992. She was married on June 2, 1951 to John Sears Houston.

Mrs. Houston was a member of the Lisbon Falls Baptist Church, Lisbon Falls Fife & Drum Corps, the Brunswick USO, Topsham Grange, Pejepscot P.T.A, SAGE Swingers Square Dance Club, Board of Directors of the Topsham Library and was a 50 plus year member of the Eastern Star, Lisbon Falls Pioneer Chapter 11.

She loved to sew, knit, and crochet and she enjoyed collecting David Winter cottages. She also enjoyed bowling, baking, bird watching, riding in their model T Fords, wintering in Florida for the past 12 years, going to bean suppers with friends, working in her flower garden and spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Mrs. Houston is survived by her husband of 52 years, John Sears Houston; two sons, Alan Houston and his wife Gayle of Topsham, Dana Houston and his wife Michelle of Topsham; one daughter, Mary-Beth Kowalczyk and her husband Richard of Topsham; five grandchildren, Scott Houston and Melanie Houston,

Kerry, Kaylee and Keith Kowalczyk.

She was predeceased by her brother, Walter Hinds Jr. in 1983.
