FARMINGTON – Kristy Veazie scored a pair of goals to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to a 2-0 win over St. Joseph’s College in college field hockey action Saturday.
Veazie converted a feed from Mary Kate Williams at 28:46 of the first half and iced the contest in the second half when she deposited an unassisted goal.
Ashleigh Biette made three saves to record the shutout.
UNE 1, Gordon 0
BIDDEFORD – Sarah Meyer took a pass from Ruth Ness at 3:11 of the first half and converted the shot from the left side of the cage to give the University of New England a 1-0 victory over Gordon in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match.
Krystall Wysocki registered her fourth shutout in five starts, making three saves.
Colby 4, Bates 1
WATERVILLE – Wendy Bonner had two goals and one assist as unbeaten Colby earned a 4-1 victory over Bates in NESCAC play.
Bonner scored off an assist from Adrlenne LeClair for the White Mules (3-0). Bonner collected the eventual game-winning goal off a blast from Michaelyn Bortolotti. Bates (1-1) cut the lead to one goal on an unassisted score by forward Lori Jessup.
Bowdoin 2, Wesleyan 0
BRUNSWICK – Taryn King scored less than two minutes into the second half to lead Bowdoin to a 2-0 blanking of Wesleyan. Amanda Burrage fed Colleen McDonald for the second goal for the Polar Bears (2-0). Gillian McDonald earned the shutout with three saves, while Caitlin Kelly made seven saves for the Cardinals (1-1).
Southern Maine 1, Clark 0
GORHAM – Sarah Dolley scored the only goal of the game in overtime to give the University of Southern Maine Huskies a 1-0 victory over Clark.
Dolley scored her first goal of the season and the seventh game-winning goal of her four year career on a rebound off Renee Heath’s shot out of a scramble in front of the cage. Freshman goalie Kaitlin Kelley was credited with 12 saves for Clark.
Soccer
Bates 0, Colby 0
WATERVILLE – Colby’s Elizabeth Riley and Bates’ Lynee Antinarelli each posted a shutout as the rivals played a 0-0 overtime tie in the NESCAC women’s soccer opener for both squads Saturday.
Riley finished with 22 saves for Colby, while Antinarelli had four stops for the Bobcats.
Bowdoin 2, Wesleyan 1
BRUNSWICK – Christine Goss delivered the winning goal in the 76th minute of play to lift Bowdoin to a 2-1 win over Wesleyan.
The Cardinals (0-1) scored first when Natalie Cohen collected a loose ball and rifled a shot into the open net. The Polar Bears (2-0) responded before the half as Ivy Blackmore relayed a cross to Elizabeth Graham, who picked up the goal.
With less than five minutes left in regulation, Cedar Goldman slapped a goalmouth pass to Goss.
Anna Shapell stopped two shots for Bowdoin.
Southern Maine 0, Wellesley 0
GORHAM – The Univeresity of Southern Maine Huskies and Wellesley College played to a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match at the USM soccer pitch.
USM’s Marcy Ansley made five saves.
