AUBURN – Jerry Lewis’ telethon to raise money to fight muscular dystrophy capped $60 million on the Labor Day weekend. Locally, ERA Worden real estate agents contributed to that cause this spring, when they raised more than $50,000.
For the past 13 years, ERA Worden staff members have participated in the fund-raiser, which started with about $5,000 in pledges.
This year’s event, a “lock-up,” was held at Gipper’s. Members of the local police departments, as well as State Police, “arrested” various community leaders, business people and citizens who were taken to Gipper’s, sentenced by “Hanging Judge” Carl Brackett and “held” until they made bail by contacting friends and family to make pledges for the MDA.
Money will be used to fight more than 40 forms of muscular dystrophy, with some of it used to provide wheelchairs and summer camperships for Maine residents.
