1935 – 2003

BOSTON, Mass. – Harlan Abbott, 67, of North Paris died Sunday, Sept. 14, as a result of a plane crash.

He was born in North Paris, on Nov. 19, 1935, the son of Lawrence and Florence Hart Abbott. He attended North Paris Elementary and West Paris High School.

He married Faye Newton on June 24, 1983. He had lived in North Paris all of his life. He worked for Stowell’s Wood Products in Bryant Pond for many years until it’s closing. He then worked for C.F. Wells in Buckfield.

He was a member of AVCOG. In May he was elected President of Oxford County Municipal Office Association. He was a Selectman for the Town of West Paris for over four years, President of the West Paris Historical Society, President of the Mollyocket Sportsmans Club, President of the Old Home Days and Derby Track, Tri-Town Ambulance as a paramedic, President of the North Paris Cemetery Association, former West Paris Fire Department member and former Town Constable.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of North Paris; a stepson, Bobby; five sisters, Rebecca Stevens of West Paris, Phyllis Morrison of Rumford, Mary Jane Ames and husband John of Gorham, N.H., Edna Proctor of West Paris and Betty Jones and husband Ted of West Paris; a brother, Howard of Albany; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Sparky.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, James.
