Saturday’s performance will

be the duo’s first

in Maine.

FARMINGTON – A touch of Broadway is coming to Farmington when Two of Hearts, soprano Deborah Clague and tenor Geoffrey Shovelton perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, in Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington.

The Two of Hearts will perform music ranging from Broadway show tunes to opera. They will present a program celebrating various aspects of love, ranging from love’s first awakening to love’s playfulness, the poetry of love and the sensual delight of love.

Two of Hearts performances have been highly lauded in Europe and the United States. Clague’s repertoire is wide-ranging. She has performed operatic roles and oratorios and presented recitals in Europe and the U.S.

Shovelton has sung as principal tenor for opera companies in the U.S. and U.K. including performing for the Queen and Queen Mother of England.

They have both directed and choreographed operas for the Savoy operas of Gilbert and Sullivan and are currently involved in the Gilbert and Sullivan theater here in Maine, directing as well as performing. Shovelton has also given Master classes in performance skills in relation to the Savoy operas.

The Two of Hearts will be accompanied by Patricia Hayden who is well known in the Franklin County musical community. She has been the musical support for solo recitals, UMF community chorus and Chamber Choir, Celebration Chorale, Continental Harmony Chorus, UMF Theater and the Sandy River Players.

The concert is sponsored by the Arts Institute of Western Maine and the University of Maine at Farmington. Admission at the door will be $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and less for others. For more information, phone 778-0169 or 654-3365.
