Drivers using Route 202 or Route 26/100 in Gray should allow additional travel time, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.

“We’re going to be grinding down the existing pavement on Route 202 at the entrance to the Exit 11 interchange of the Maine Turnpike and on Route 26/100 in Gray on Monday,” said Joe Darling, MDOT’s construction manager for the project.

Darling also reminds drivers using the Windham rotary, at the junction of routes 202 and 302 at Foster’s Corner in Windham, to plan on additional travel time Tuesday and Wednesday.

“On Tuesday (Sept. 30), we’re going to be grinding off the existing pavement at the rotary between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.,” Darling said. “On Wednesday, we’re going to start shimming the roadway base to provide a more level surface about 6:30 a.m. Then we’ll put down the final layer of new pavement. We plan to finish paving by 3 p.m. Tractor-trailer units and oversized loads using either U.S. 202 or U.S. 302 between those times are strongly urged to consider alternate routes to avoid the rotary. Those vehicles could face delays of up to 30 minutes once the final paving process begins.”

Darling says the work in both Gray and Windham is weather-dependent and will be postponed on a day-to-day basis if the weather is bad.

Both the Gray and Windham projects are covered by a single contract, awarded to Pike Industries of Lewiston on a bid of nearly $878,000. That contract calls for the completion of work on both projects by mid-November.
