A Lewiston man pleaded guilty Wednesday to possessing a cache of guns that had been stolen from a Gardiner home.

Michael Fitzpatrick, 33, had been arrested in May after Waterville police raided an apartment in that city in search of shotguns, rifles and a handgun that had been stolen from a Gardiner residence.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Fitzpatrick gave one of the guns to a friend and stashed the remaining seven beneath insulation in the ceiling of the Waterville apartment.

The U.S. Attorney’s office said Fitzpatrick knew the guns were stolen and had even offered to file off their serial numbers.

Fitzpatrick, who had finished serving a five-year prison sentence just a week before his May arrest, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a gun, as well as possessing stolen firearms.

Information on Fitzpatrick’s sentence was unavailable Thursday.
