AUBURN – Matt Mower, Abenaki District, Pine Tree Council, Boy Scouts, announces that more than 100 boys have joined local Cub Scout packs and Boy Scout troops as the result of recent “School Night for Scouting” efforts. The new Scouts add to the district’s more than 1,500 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers involved in more than 50 units.
“It is satisfying to see that parents are considering Scouting as a formal program to help round out their child’s development throughout the school years and young adulthood,” said Abenaki District Chairman Joseph Koguori, referring to how the Scouting program has remained a popular choice even though there is an increasing amount of organizations and activities for young people.
Mower stressed that there is still time to sign up. “There is an active unit in almost every community, and any of them would be happy to help get your son involved right away. Some units are adding additional events because they want as many young people in their community as possible to benefit from the Scouting program,” Mower said.
For more information on how to sign up with a local unit, contact Mower at 797-5252, extension 33, or e-mail him at [email protected]. Those interested can also find out more about Scouting at the Abenaki District’s booth at the Auburn Mall Community Fair on Saturday, Oct. 11. Cub Scouting is for boys in first through fifth grade, Boy Scouting is for boys from ages 11 to 18 and Venturing is a co-ed program for youths ages 14 to 20.
The Abenaki District services the Scouting program in most of Androscoggin and Oxford counties.
