June 2003

After my last career idea fell through about a year ago, I felt lost. Deciding what I wanted to do with my life was overwhelming. couldn’t think of anything else about which I felt passionately. All of a sudden, I had a revelation. I loved working out and playing sports. I found the way the body works together to create movement fascinating. Every time someone has a medical malady, I try to discover the root of their problem. Could I be a personal trainer? A sports coach? A physical education teacher?

My mom suggested that I job shadow a Physical Therapist (PT) at the hospital where she works. The PT went to all the patients and, depending on their injury and limitations, determined what should be done to increase mobility. It was like one big puzzle.

At long last I found something I could see myself doing years from now and enjoying it. The pressure was off; when people asked me what I wanted to study in college, I could give them a definite answer. But now I have to start worrying about deciding on colleges and seeking out financial aid and scholarships. My journey has just begun.
