The Edward Little High School Drama Club and Society of Southern Maine Craftsmen are joining forces and sponsoring a craft show at the ELHS Gym on Saturday, October 18 from 10 am to 4 pm and on Sunday, October 19 from 10 am to 3 pm. This event is both a fund raiser for the ELHS Drama Club and a selling venue for some of Maine’s best crafters. On sale will be hand crafted jewelry, wood, food, fabric, pottery and more. There will be no resale items or kits. All vendors are members of the Society of Southern Maine Craftsmen.
The Drama Club will be the recipient of the rental fee paid by SSMC for the use of the gym and the income generated from the sale of concessions. This income will be used by the Drama Club to build a deck/walk way around the sides and back of the Drama Club’s amphitheater, which is located behind the school in the Elf Woods. The Club needs about $2,500 to complete this phase of the project which began in the fall of 1995 when the Club applied for and received a $4,000 Maine Humanities Grant. In the spring of 1996, after building the foundation, stage and 4 rows of seats, the Club members entertained their first group of Auburn elementary students at the Elf Woods Playhouse. The play at the amphitheater has been an annual event since 1996. Additional fund-raisers allowed the Club to put up the back wall of the amphitheater and to add six additional rows of seats.
