WATERFORD – An Albany Township man received facial injuries and bruises on Tuesday after he fell asleep and ran his vehicle off the road.

Kenneth Newell, 62, was heading for Albany on the Hunts Corner Road when the incident occurred, Oxford County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Chris Wainwright said. Newell went across the road, furrowed a small ditch through the soft forest cover, snapped an aging tree and continued on before hitting another tree and spinning around.

Wainwright said Newell struck his head and had a cut over his right eye.

He was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway and transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland. A nursing supervisor said Newell was in fair condition Tuesday night.

Wainwright estimated damage to Newell’s 1989 Dodge Dakota pickup at about $3,500.
