NORWAY- Maya Best of Greenwood is having her first one person art show at the Commons Gallery, 447 Main St., from Oct. 20 to Nov. 30.
The opening reception is at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, and refreshments will be served. At 8, a mother and daughter act called The Earth Tones will perform two songs on the drums. This event is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Best attended the Maine College of Art from 1978 to 1980 and majored in painting. Presently she makes her own paper and works directly from nature, which results in interesting abstract landscapes and collages that are full of color and texture.
She is a member of Common Drum along with Alan Day of Norway and Jan Kubiac of Albany. Their group will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Common Drums with various drumming styles and instruments.
Best is a licensed clinical social worker and has her own psychotherapy practice at 16 Parkway.
She is also a writer and is sponsoring a writer’s read at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the Commons Gallery. Anyone who would like to read original work can call her at 824-8705.
