1919 – 2003

AUGUSTA – Pamphile “Phill” N. Dostie, 84, of Mt. Vernon Avenue, died Oct. 16, at MaineGeneral Medical Center after a long illness.

He was born in St. Ephrem, P.Q., Canada, on Sept. 18, 1919, the son of Phillip Dostie and Alphonsine (Pepin) Dostie.

Mr. Dostie was educated in Augusta schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was owner and operator of Dostie Brothers Garage on Mt. Vernon Avenue for 32 years. He was previously employed by Hallowell Shoe Co. for 19 years. He also worked for Bates Manufacturing Co. in his youth. “Phill” also found time to dabble in real estate and a construction company.

Mr. Dostie was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Calumet Club, founder and co-owner of Capitol Area Sportsman Club, member of the Sacred Heart League, Disabled American Veterans, Abnaki Council 334 Knights of Columbus and Abnaki Assembly 4th degree Knights of Columbus.

He was an avid snowmobiler, swimmer and shuffleboard player in Florida.

Surviving is his wife, Corinne B. (Doucette) Dostie of Augusta; one son, Florian “Tank” Dostie and his wife Evelyn of Belgrade; three daughters, Beatrice Dostie of Sidney, Mary Jane Dostie Dickmyer of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Jacqueline “Jackie” Dostie-Smith and her husband Harold of Sidney; one brother, Avit Dostie of Augusta; one sister, Mary Rose Poulin and her husband Benoit of Augusta; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Dostie of Hemlock Farms, Pa.; six grandchildren, Fatima Rollins and her husband Buddy, Chrissanda Welch and her husband Neal, Rebecca Dostie, Crystal Dostie, Nicholas Dostie and Melanie Dostie; four great-grandchildren, Justin Rollins, Billy Rollins, Daniel Welch and Mathew Welch; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Vincent Dostie in 1987; five sisters, Yvette “Gerine” Farris, Harmonia “Simone” Marceau, Mary Grenier, Agatha Dostie and Pelagie Breton; and two brothers, Leo “Pete” Dostie and Phillip Dostie Jr.
