GREENE – An appeal for money to help the White Dove Food Bank reopen was among several requests heard by selectmen and the Budget Committee on Monday night.

The board and committee make separate funding recommendations for articles at the annual town meeting in March.

Sandy Bates, executive director of the food distribution organization, said White Dove Agency is seeking $4,000 from the town. The food bank and a thrift store closed a few months ago. Bates said the food bank and possibly the thrift store would reopen if they are funded and if a location is found. She said Community Concepts would help provide canned food to begin a food distribution operation.

Town Manager Stephen Eldridge said the old town hall is likely going to be leased to the Greene Historical Society, but there is a room in the rear of the building that could be used for a food pantry.

Selectman Timothy Doyle said White Dove has “100 percent support, including finding a place.”

Bates said between 23 and 25 Greene families visited the food bank monthly when it was open. She expressed concern that some families may not be receiving services.

Other organizations seeking financial support from the town include: Tri-County Health Services, $3,667, serving 141 Greene residents; Child Health Center, $1,468, serves 21 clients; Advocates for Children, $200, serves 50 Greene children; Abused Women’s Advocacy Project, $100; Seniors Plus, $500, serves 52 people; Androscoggin Home Health, $500; and Androscoggin Head Start, $100, serves one Greene child at Turner Elementary School.
