1932 – 2003

LEWISTON – Noela R. Oakes, 70, of North Street, Dixfield, died Monday, Oct. 20, at the Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Fall River, Mass., on Dec. 21, 1932, the daughter of John and Marilda (Fournier) Savoie, and graduated from Hamilton High School in Culver City, Calif., class of 1950.

Mrs. Oakes did private piano music lessons for many years and for eight years was employed at Bass Shoe in Rumford, Jay & Wilton until they closed, and for many years had owned and operated the “Wee-Glass” Gift Shop at her home in Dixfield.

She was attending the United Baptist Church, West Peru. She loved her music and playing the piano for many years. She had served as pianist for many area churches over the years.

She was married in Huntington, L.I., N. Y., on Feb. 14, 1970 to Clifford A. Oakes who survives of Dixfield; other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Jeannine Cornell of Apple Valley, Calif., and Mrs. Muriel McHenry & her husband Franklin of Denver, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
