1926 – 2003

LEWISTON – Robert J. Glassett, 77, of 40 Malibu Drive, Auburn, died Monday morning, Oct. 20, at Central Maine Medical Center, after an ardent battle with prostate cancer and pancreatitis. He received comfort from his family and friends at his side.

Born in Winthrop, Mass., May 1, 1926, the second son of Frederick and Alice Wain Glassett, he graduated from Quincy High School.

He worked in the leather and shoe industry as a traveling salesman. On Oct. 27, 1955 he married Murdena E. DeCelle, who died on Dec. 9, 1968, leaving two children, Patricia, 11 and Robert Jr., 8.

On Sept. 2, 1969 he married Fern Arsenault and moved to Maine, where he was appointed by the Bostonian Shoe Co. to manage a leather distribution center for the 11 shoe manufacturing factories in Maine at that time. When he retired he joined the real estate industry, buying, selling and remodeling houses.

Survivors include his wife, Fern Glassett; one daughter, Patty Beach and her husband, Peter and Poland; one stepson, John Arsenault and best friend, Rhoda Farley; six nephews, Frederick and Diana Glassett, Thomas Glassett, Robert and Linda Glassett, Paul and Anne Glassett, Kevin and Patty Glassett and Thomas and Sharon Tetreault; two nieces, Mary Boisvert and her husband, Albert and Denise Farley; three granddaughters, Jolie Hassler, Jill Maroney and Cari Roy; and three great-grandchildren, Noah, Cameron and Mark.

He was predeceased by his son, Robert Jr., at the age of 33, who was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the age of nine.
