Reggie’s Kawasaki is offering a

$500 reward.

GREENE – A Wales business and a Greene family are putting up rewards for the recovery of all-terrain vehicles stolen in recent months.

Police believe the thefts may be related. Both heists were committed in the early morning hours, investigators said.

In August, three rare ATVs were stolen from Reggie’s Kawasaki on Leeds Junction Road in Wales.

The combined value of those vehicles – two Baja type ATVs and one Bombadier – was estimated at $17,000.

On Oct. 19, a Lane Road family awoke to find their 2002 four-wheeler had disappeared from their yard. Thieves used the Rays’ ramps to make off with the ATV.

“It happened between 12:30 and 5:30 in the morning,” said Julie Ray.

“We had just gotten back from four-wheeling and we were asleep. Whoever did this went into the garage and took the ramps. They took the machine right off our pickup truck.”

The ATV, a Kansas Prairie 650, had been purchased at Reggie’s Kawasaki. Ray estimated the value of the machine at between $5,000 and $7,000.

At Reggie’s in August, Androscoggin County Sheriff’s investigators said they found some evidence at the scene of the theft.

A detective said there have been new leads in the case since the heist.

Also new is the $500 reward being offered by Reggie’s for information leading to the recovery of the stolen machines or the prosecution of those responsible. Police are hoping that incentive, combined with the fact that the stolen machines are considered rare in Maine, might lead to suspects in the case.

In Greene, the Ray family is offering an unspecified reward for the recovery of the stolen four-wheeler. Anyone with information about that theft is asked to phone 240-0397 or 375-6922.

Anyone with information about the theft at Reggie’s Kawasaki is asked to phone Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department Detective William Gagne at 784-7361 or 1-800-492-0737.
