WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) – Defenseman Rick Berry scored his first two goals of the season to lead the Portland Pirates to a 3-2 victory over the Worcester IceCats in an American Hockey League game Saturday night.
Berry scored at 19:19 of the first period to tie the game at 1-1, then gave his team the lead at 14:45 of the second period.
The Pirates were ahead for the rest of the game. Owen Fussey put Portland ahead, 3-1, at 2:29 of the third period. It was his first goal as a professional.
After starting the season 0-4-0, the Pirates have won three games straight.
Sergei Varlamov and John Pohl had the Worcester goals. Varlamov put the IceCats ahead at 3:02 of the first period, then Pohl made it a 3-2 game at 6:04 of the third.
The Pirates outshot Worcester, 25-17, and neither team scored a power play goal.
