PERU – Selectmen discussed a request from the Maine Department of Transportation that would allow trucks contracted by the department to exceed legal weight limits on town roads.
The request would limit the DOT’s liability to $9,000 for each kilometer of road damaged by the trucks which are to be used in some upcoming projects. A decision on the item was postponed until more information was available.
Also discussed was whether or not to purchase a new copier to replace the leased machine currently in use in the town office. Including a 5-year maintenance agreement, buying a new copier would cost the town $7,275.00, and would result in a savings of more than $800. The board reminded citizens that voting for the Nov. 4 election will be held at the Rockemeka Grange between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Absentee ballots are available from the town office for anyone who cannot make it to the polls.
