1930 – 2003

PORTLAND – Richard Oscar Campbell, 73, a resident of Northwood Road, Lewiston, died Saturday evening, Oct. 25, at Maine Medical Center following a sudden illness.

He was born in Portland Jan. 1, 1930, the son of Oscar H. and Florence (Isaacs) Campbell. He was educated in the grammar schools of Portland, graduated from Deering High School in 1948 and graduated from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1954.

On Aug. 24, 1950 he married the former Priscilla W. Webster in Portland. During the 1950’s Mr. Campbell served in the U.S. Marines, 1st Marine Division, stationed at Camp Lejune, N.C. He was a practicing Pharmacist for 45 years, 27 of which he owned and operated Packard Pharmacy of Auburn.

For the last five years was employed as a pharmacist for Rite Aid of Lewiston. Mr. Campbell was a recipient of the Bowl of Hygeia awarded as an outstanding Pharmacist for the State of Maine.

Mr. Campbell had also been a member of the Maine Commission of Pharmacist for 22 years and was appointed by four different governors. He was a member of the United Baptist Church of Lewiston, Liberty Rebekah Lodge 94, Odd Fellows Lodge and Tranquil Lodge 29 A.F. & A.M. Auburn, Scottish Rite bodies and the Kora Shrine Temple.

He was an avid sports enthusiast having been a volunteer coach for local Church – Y leagues and supported several area youth activities. He also enjoyed the interest of gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years; three sons, Richard R. Campbell and his wife Susan of Cumberland, Bruce A. Campbell and his wife Betty of Portland and Jeffery S. Campbell of Auburn; a foster son, Warren G. Galway and his wife Bonnie of Auburn; four grandchildren, Jennifer, and Brian Campbell of Portland and Shawn and Andrew Campbell of Auburn.
