1929 – 2003

LEWISTON – Raymond R. Langlais Sr., 74, died after a brief illness on Oct. 28.

Mr. Langlais was born on March 30, 1929, to the late Angelina (Provencher) and Thomas Langlais in Quebec, Canada. Mr. Langlais moved with his family to Lewiston as a young boy and was educated in Lewiston schools, graduating from St. Dominic’s High School in 1949.

After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Mr. Langlais worked as a painter, then for Bath Iron Works, and retired after 25 years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 22 in Lewiston and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Mr. Langlais was an avid hockey fan, playing hockey throughout his school years and later in the Lewiston-Auburn Cardiac League. He coached boys’ youth hockey, as well as the first girls’ traveling hockey team in the Lewiston-Auburn area in the 1970s and early 1980s.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille (Berube) Langlais, whom he married in 1959; four children, Diane Gray of Cumberland, Denise Langlais of Auburn, Lt. Col. Raymond Langlais Jr., currently stationed in England with the U.S. Army, and Doris Langlais of Winthrop; five grandchildren, Ian and Michelle Gray, Katana Langlais, and Kimberly and Daniel Langlais; and a brother, John Langlais of Florence, Ore.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Lorette Langlais and Simone Johnson.
