GORHAM – Forward Jessie Corson scored three goals as Skowhegan won the Class A state championship for the third year in a row with a 5-0 win over Deering at Gorham High School.

Skowhegan simply had too much firepower in completing its second straight unbeaten season at 18-0.

The disciplined Indians assumed control early, and Corson proved the difference. The Indians haven’t allowed a goal in the last two state games.

Deering (16-2) had no answer for the aggressive Indians.

Corson opened the scoring 2:41 into the game on a pass from Katy LePage.

The Indians went up 2-0 when Jessica Dorman (two goals) scored with 4:15 left in the first half.

In the second half, Corson drilled three slap shots past Rams goalie Megan Urban (eight saves). The Indians defense was solid led by sweeper Hayley King and goalie Carlee Evans.

Greely 2, Winslow 0

Greely ended Winslow’s two-year spell in the Class B championship.

Sarah Dimick scored a goal and an assist as the Rangers posted a 2-0 shutout over Winslow. It was a touch of redemption after Winslow beat Greely 1-0 in the 2001 and 2002 state games.

“It hasn’t sunk in yet,” Greely coach Robin Thayer said. “We had come out flat, so we needed to adjust. That first goal really helped.”

Dimick drilled an unassisted goal past Winslow goalie Cierra Byrne 9:20 in to the second half. Less than one minute later, Dimick passed to Kelly Saucier, who one-timed it in to the cage.
