The Black Bears blow a 21-point lead and lose in OT.

NEWARK, Del. (AP) – Brad Shushman kicked a 36-yard field goal in overtime to give Delaware a 24-21 win over Maine on Saturday.

In overtime, a Black Bear 35-yard field goal attempt was blocked by defensive tackle Chris Mooney. It was his second block of the game.

The Blue Hens (9-0, 6-0 Atlantic 10 Conference) took over and drove the ball to the 19-yard line, setting up Shushman’s field goal for the win. Shushman had missed two field goals earlier in the game.

In the fourth quarter, Delaware’s Sidney Haugabrook returned the Black Bears’ punt to the Maine 39-yard line.

With just 1:34 left in the game, Hall threw a 39-yard pass to David Boler, who played the final three quarters with a broken rib, down the right sideline to tie the game.

Delaware trailed Maine (5-4, 4-3) 21-0 to the end of the third quarter. With just 12 seconds left in the quarter, Andy Hall’s two-yard run put the Blue Hens on the board.

Maine’s Marcus Williams, who finished with 111 yards rushing for his fifth 100-yard game of the season, scored on two 1-yard dives in the first half.

Black Bear Ron Whitcomb completed 21 of 34 passes for 246 yards and connected with Christian Pereira on an 11-yard scoring pass.
