LEWISTON – Kim Alexander scored a pair of goals to lead Bates to a 2-0 win over Trinity in first-round NESCAC women’s soccer tournament play Sunday afternoon at Russell Street Field.

Alexander put the Bobcats on top midway through the first half on a cross by Jenna Benson to the penalty area. Alexander picked the ball out of the air and one-timed it inside the near post at 23:14 of the first half. Bates iced the game with Alexander’s second goal in the 58th minute. Lynne Antinarelli made six saves to record the shutout.

UMF 4, Johnson State 2

FARMINGTON – Julia Malek drilled an unassisted goal at 69:16 of the second half to lift the University of Maine at Farmington to a 4-2 win over Johnson State.

Jodie Welch gave UMF a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute, converting a feed from Erin Campbell to give the Beavers (14-3-1) the early lead. Campbell added a second goal less than a minute later. Heidi Parker and Julia Malek rounded out the scoring. Johnson State’s goals came late in the second half from Crystal Williams and Molly Brady.

Bowdoin 6, Tufts 0

BRUNSWICK – Bowdoin cruised to a 6-0 semifinal round victory over Tufts College in NESCAC field hockey tournament play.

Colleen McDonald scored at 32:31 of the first half, converting a pass from Marissa O’Neil to send Bowdoin rolling to its ninth straight win.

Abby Daley, Amanda Burrage, O’Neil, Christi Gagnon and Gessy LePage rounded out the scorring barrage.Gillian McDonald and Kate Leonard combined for the win in goal.
