RUMFORD – Ever since SAD 43 and the Rumford School Department merged in 1989, regular, twice-monthly board meetings have been held at Mountain Valley High School.

A few exceptions have occurred, such as when asbestos was being removed from the high school, but the regular place has always been there.

That may change.

When the board meets Monday, members will discuss whether to remain at the high school for one of the meetings each month, then rotate the second meeting of the month to one of the remaining four district schools. In Rumford, those are Rumford and Virginia elementary schools. In Mexico, those are Mountain Valley Middle School and Meroby Elementary School.

“Some people may be more comfortable at another school,” said board Chairman Arthur Boivin.

Board member Betty Barrett said with the number of new members on the board, getting a chance to see each of the district’s five schools may be easier for them if the meetings were held in alternative places.

“I think it’s a good idea,” she said.

In other matters on Monday, the board will discuss the costs involved with the replacement of two boilers at Virginia Elementary School, appoint a new high school Spanish teacher and two support staff, accept the resignations of two basketball coaches, and hear monthly reports from administrators.

They will also enter into a closed session to discuss guidelines for negotiating with the secretary, educational technician, nutrition services and teacher bargaining units.
