1942 – 2003

TOPSHAM – Therese P. Obrin, 60, of Patricia Drive died Wednesday, Nov. 5, unexpectedly at her home.

She was born in Lewiston, on Dec. 22, 1942, the daughter of Robert W. and Germaine Gendron Bonenfant. She attended local schools there and graduated from St. Dominic’s High School in the Class of 1961.

On May 21, 1966 she married Steve J. Obrin II in Lewiston.

Mrs. Orbin, better known as “memere,” was the foundation and epicenter of the Obrin family. She enjoyed caring for her grandchildren, Jacob and Lauren, once a week where they would have special adventures, like going to the family camp, finger painting, or making cookies. Memere recently spent two weeks in Oregon with her youngest daughter, Jill and newest grandson Owen.

It was common to hear the words, “I love you too much memere” uttered not only by her own grandchildren but also by the children of family and friends.

The value she placed on family was shown through her Sunday dinners.

An avid gardener, “Terry” chose selections of lilies that had meaning.

A new addition to her garden this summer was a lily named Nicole, which gave her a sense of her daughter being near.

Her warmth extended to her son, Pip, his dogs, or as she referred to them as “the boys” who always had special treats at Memere’s house.

She was an accomplished laboratory technologist, whose work ethic is exemplified not only by her professional accomplishments but also by the strength of the relationships she forged while working at Mid Coast Hospital.

She will be sadly missed by her many friends and family.

She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and also volunteered for the Hospice of Maine Program in Brunswick.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years; three daughters, Tina M. and her husband Geoffry Sturgess of Topsham, Nicole S. Obrin and her husband Mathew Lebovitz of San Fransisco, Calif., and Jill R. and her husband Ernest Pyle of Portland, Ore.; one son, Steve J. Obrin III and his wife Jennifer of Durham; three grandchildren, Jacob O. and Lauren Y. Sturgess of Topsham and Owen J. Pyle of Portland, Ore.; three sisters, Claire Petkers and Denise Leifester both of Lewiston, and Claudette Ledoux of Greene; several nieces and nephews.
