1913 – 2003
FARMINGTON – Nioma Burns, 90, of Farmington, formerly of Skowhegan, died early Thursday morning, Nov. 13, at the Franklin Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 10, 1913, in Presque Isle, a daughter of George and Lavene (Pomeroy) Ireland. She attended Corinna and Greenville schools.
On Feb. 11, 1940, she married the love of her life, Gerald Burns in Norridgewock. They made their home in Skowhegan for most of their married life.
Mrs. Burns was a loving and devoted homemaker to her family. She took great pride in providing a loving home and environment for her husband, son and granddaughters. She enjoyed flowers and traveling, but her greatest passion was time spent with her granddaughters.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Gerald of Farmington; a son, Richard and his wife Marie of Farmington, with whom she lived with the last two years; a sister, Mrs. Robert Lyons of Skowhegan; four granddaughters, Brandi Burns of St. Pete, Fla., Megan Farmer and her husband Tom of Temple, Bethany Burns of Burlington, Vt., and Whitney Burns of Wallingford, Conn.; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Edgerly and her husband Dana of Canaan, Evelyn Witham of Skowhegan, and Sadie Wolfe of Florida; a brother-in-law, James Burns of Connecticut.
She was predeceased by a sister, Charlotte McLaughlin of California.
