MINOT – The Mid Maine ATV Club held a trail work day on Oct. 18, focusing on the three miles of the Harris Trail.
Club members split up into two work crews. One crew traveled with the small excavator that was donated by Wallingford Equipment. They removed stumps, rocks and other obstacles in the club trail. The other crew set off to clear brush and reroute trails, with landowners’ permission. Care was taken to have minimal impact on the land by limiting tree cuts and earth disturbance.
In the afternoon the two crews merged to concentrate on installing various conservation practices. Four rubber-edged water bars and one open box culvert were installed to help minimize erosion on the trails. The excavator was ideal for accessing these remote sites, installing conservation measures, and shaping the trail.
The efficiency and speed of the crew and machinery allowed members to complete the work in one day.
The Mid Maine ATV Club meets the second Tuesday of the month in the basement of the Minot Town Office. For more information about the club visit the Web site, http://home.gwi.net/midmeatv.
