FARMINGTON – Jacqueline Briggs Martin, a native of Turner and author of the 1999 Caldecott Medal winner for best children’s picture book, “Snowflake Bentley,” will be at Cascade Brook School for a residency Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 18 and 19. She will work with fourth-graders on writing. She also will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the school. Anyone interested is invited to listen to her talk about her writing experiences and the value of reading to children. Throughout the year, authors and artists will work with each grade to help students write and illustrate their own stories.

Crafters sought

Sale deadline

FARMINGTON – The sale of gym floor pieces from the Community Center will end soon. More than 100 souvenir boards, each a 14 by 2 inch section of the original floor with a commemorative plate, have been sold at $5 apiece. Planning a fair

FARMINGTON – Final plans for the annual Christmas craft fair will be made at the meeting of the Franklin County Arts and Crafts Association at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the North Dining Hall of the University of Maine at Farmington’s Student Center. New members are welcome. The fair will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, in the Student Center. Admission is free and the event will feature a variety of crafts and artwork. Traditionally scheduled the first Saturday of December, the fair has been a popular event for shoppers seeking holiday gifts.

LURC hearing

RANGELEY – The Maine Land Use Regulation Commission will seek public comment on proposed amendments to Chapter 10, Land Use Districts and Standards at a public hearing this month. It will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Rangeley Lakes Regional High School. The proposed changes include adopting a two-tier level of subdivision review to simplify the permitting process for small-scale, appropriately located subdivisions, and adopting rules to clarify permitting requirements for subdivisions as well as residential and commercial development projects.
